On Monday We went into Accra for some one or two things. The nice thing about the markets are that anything can be found and though it is a knockoff of what can be found in the states, the price is great making it compelling to buy things to take home that would cost much more there. On the way home I talked to a man that had worked for Microsoft, living in the U.S. for over 22 years and as a result knowing more about my country than I did.
On Tuesday we were getting our investigator, Gifty, ready for her baptismal interview and then having it conducted on Wednesday. On Thursday, we returned helping Gifty, get ready with her member brother, Enoch, to baptize her when we were told that even though her immediate family is okay with her becoming a member, they are concerned that her grandmothers would react harshly. As a result if was decided by Gifty's elder siblings that she would have to wait for her baptism. Gifty wasn't happy about the decision, but there is nothing we can do. Later on Thursday we taught Nii the plan of salvation in its entirety. He really liked the subject of salvation for the dead. In Ghana there is a lot of thought on curses and with the salvation of the dead he told us how it would change the family in the past, present, and future because it would erase the curse instilled on the ancestors which would still be on the future generations. We also met two people that had come in contact with the church before. Though we were not able to help Gifty be baptized it's great to see how God had a hand in everything, because I couldn't think of anything that Elder Macualay and I could have done to merit such a blessing.
Friday We had our mission Christmas conference in Accra. There were over 130 people there, but because of the people that had gone home when I first came to Ghana, there were less people that I really knew. I had fun talking to people I knew and developing friendships with others. I do recall that I was more excited about the conference last year than I was about it this year. I figure it's because I have been here for 15 months and things have become more normal than what they were at first to me. The musical number the district sang wasn't very good, but oh well. After the conference I ran into several members from my previous area of Alajo at the building we were at and then rushed back to Adenta with Elder Macaulay, Elder Jones, and Elder Lindsay so I could preform in the Night In Bethlehem play where I was to be a wise man. there was a lot of people there for the food, a few Christmas talks, and the play where the audience was given costumes to wear to help set the mood. We were surprised on how everything looked so nice and I do feel that I played a good wise man. I had to because I was the only white person there sticking out from the rest of everyone else. It was a lot of fun. We helped clean up and we returned late at night to rest for the Christmas party at the area Seventy's house who lives in our area.
Saturday I awoke around 3:30am feeling really sick and eventually going to the Ahajies house to help them setup for the mission party. I tried to help set up a bit, but because of how I felt I eventually just went inside the house for a few hours while the missionaries came. President and Sister Judd found me sleeping inside and after reviewing the symptoms they decided that I may very-well have malaria so I started my treatment and after a bit I was okay enough to go outside and talk to missionary friends. I was really out of it, but I was able to go around and take some pictures with people to which was nice. At the end of the day I get to say I have had malaria.
Sunday we got ready for church and I did feel better from the previous day. One of the things with this medicine is that the desire for eating goes down and eventually when one becomes hungry they still don't have the desire to eat. As a result I have lost some weight. Church was good and we were able to get some investigators to church. It was also nice to see Gifty still come church and it's activities even though she can't be baptized for about three years. She will be blessed.
