On Monday the thing of note was that Elder Macaulay and I were invited
over to the Ahagis' house for Family Home Evening. The father of the
family is a member of the area Seventy and it's his house we go to as
a mission for Christmas day. There are only a few times I feel awkward
or too dirty (the sweat and dust) at places here and their house is
one of them. I don't know what I can really say to convey the house
aside from saying they have an automatic garage door, and industrial
sized generator, a basketball hoop, a guest house, a son that served
his mission in the USA, and an indoor fountain over 6 feet tall. We
also met the white man who was at church on Sunday there as well. The
best quality of this man is his dreamingly, deep, powerful yet gentle,
full of knowledge voice. It's great.
On Tuesday we were talking in district meeting and we found out that
Sister Mbonwa (the sister missionary that came to Ghana the same time
as myself) used to be an assistant pastor of some evangelical church in
Uganda before she became a member. As a result of this great news we
did what any other group of people would do in this situation; we had
her preach to us. In her sermon she used her typical African pastor
voice (lots of aggression in the voice) where she led us through
worship praises/ dancing, speaking in other languages not known to
man, and collection. It was quite an interesting experience.
Wednesday Our investigator Bright told us some of his relationship
problems. The thing I remember was that he doesn't like to talk to
her and if he does he would rather go to a cafe and do it over
facebook- ya a big problem.
Thursday Elder Macaulay and I were biking around and came across
several men catching grass cutters. A grass cutter is a large rat that
is found by digging up the ground. They were catching them to eat and
I have heard they taste nice. The men caught five when they reached
down into the hole and found two recently born puppies which they
showed their family and took them to their house to nurture and call
their own.
Friday we were called by our bishop to attend a member's traditional
baby blessing ceremony. It was an interesting experience where the
uncle of the husband liked to give a lot of aggressive prayers in Twi.
Saturday we went out with the bishop again to visit a few people.
Before that one of the drivers he has working for him vocally taught
me how to drive manual which was fun. I like going around with our
bishop because I get to see his charitable attitude towards everyone
we meet.
Sunday we had John, Enoch, and Luis come to church. John and Enoch
will be interviewed and baptized this week while Luis was the husband
who is married to the member with the newly born baby. Luis really
liked the church. Cynthia was planning to come to church, but her
daughter Mary had convulsions and had to go to the hospital. We plan
to see her during the week with a few members. The last thing I will
mention about Sunday is that I went to interview a girl named Esther
(19) for baptism. Esther told her story and how her mother didn't want
her to be baptized four years ago and finally gave permission. She
told me that the missionary that originally taught her was Elder Paul
Booren. I told her how I knew him and all that kind of small talk. I
found it interesting how I know him and he started Esther in the
Gospel and I was the one to interview her for baptism. It was my
favorite baptismal interview I have done.
