From September 12, 2011; Sparkling Clean Apartment; When Helping Gets Complicated

On Monday Elder Moses and I went into Accra. The purpose of the trip was for him to show me more of the specific areas in the city while buying one or two things. It was a lot of fun to go into the city though by the time we returned it was the end of the day and we were both tired.
Tuesday we cleaned the apartment for it to be inspected the next day. The problem with cleaning the apartment is how much dust is collected from the road. Elder Moses cleaned several of the window screens themselves which really helped the appearance of the place. It took quite a while to clean everything with only two of us there, but when we ended it was the cleanest I have ever seen the place.
Wednesday One of the senior missionary couples came to check our place bringing some cookies along which was very nice. They were quite impressed and even took pictures for a slideshow to display how clean our places should be. The last thing that was done for the check was for a chemical to be sprayed in the apartment for roaches and our side for the weeks. We were forced to wait outside for a few hours for the fumes to dissipate inside so I used the time to learn some more of the language.
Saturday Elder Moses and I had a baptism for two people, Gideon Attipoe(18)  and Sarah Guhi(11). Both individuals come from part member families which was nice for their support with teaching and the growth of the people. After the baptism we visited a recent convert named Jones. Though this doesn't have much relevance back home, Jones is an avid Arsenal football club (Europe) fan. The team has been having some very bad games recently so to help with his support I had bought him the new season away jersey for him in Accra on the previous Monday for him picking me up a white shirt. He was happy for the gift and we had a lot of fun visiting.
Sunday we had a man come to the church that had met us previously to help him with sending a letter to the US Embassy. The man is a Nigerian who was born in Ivory Coast. He had come to Ghana because he was wanted by his brother and some of his associates for reasons still a bit shady to us. We had met him the previous weeks as we were heading somewhere so we gave him a pamphlet. During this week we ran into him again where we asked if he had read the book and he said he would like to meet with us for some questions to be answered. He took us to the school/ church he was staying in where he explained his situation and showed us a letter he was planning to submit to the Embassy for help. The letter basically said that he was on the run from his brother and that he didn't have any work or money asking the Embassy to help. Elder Moses and I both knew that this man's request for money would be ignored so we tried to be supportive and helped him edit the letter for him. When we left the meeting he misunderstood us and he showed up to church with his letter expecting us to deliver it to someone at the Embassy. I tried to explain that there was a misunderstanding and that I didn't even know where the Embassy was much less able to deliver it for him. He left the church upset and we haven't heard from him after that.
